Every time I take my folding origami -kajak, the Oru -Kajak inlet, into the lake near my house, I put on a lot of curious boat driver. In the 3 minutes I usually take to build my boat. They peppered me with questions:
“Is that an origami kayak? How much does it weigh? Is it expensive?”
Yes, 20 pounds and yes, I answer – but it’s worth it.
I bought my ORU -KAJAK in the summer of 2020 after I had a pleasure for months. Kayaking seemed a funny, safe, socially distant activity that I could do alone, but I wanted a boat that I could easily transport alone to the lake.
I have had the admission for a year now and I am still incredibly falling in love with him. Here is the reason why the Oru Kajak inlet was a good choice for me:
Portable: I wanted a boat that I could do completely. Little 5’2 ″, weak I didn’t want to drag heavy plastic kayak on and from the tip of my car, and inflatable kayak seemed to be a pain every time, to inflate and empty. With the 20-pound oru kayak inlet, I can easily bring my kayak back to the lake with zero help. It is also easy to save because it takes up much less space than a traditional kayak.
Comfortable: I need about 3-4 minutes to build my boat. The first time it took 15 minutes and the time quickly went from there. It is easy to learn and remember.
Semi-lean-float: With 899 US dollars, the Oru Kajakaslass is much more expensive than a cheap inflatable kayak. But it is also the cheapest model sold by Oru -Kajak. (A few years ago, Juno I modeled for Oru Kayak’s Tandem Kayak, The Haven, which is available for $ 1,999 in retail.)
If you buy an Oru kayak and do not like experience, you have a 30-day return policy without any questions. And if you wait longer than 30 days, there is also a robust resale market. The search for “Oru Kayak US US UT” was moved last summer, and all used models that I have seen sell almost as much as a brand new.
I love taking my admission to Lake Mcintosh, a reservoir near my house in Colorado with a wonderful view of the longs peak in the Rocky Mountain National Park. It is easy to build that on weekdays I can take it out for a short morning or evening paddle, and sustainable enough so that I can bring it to road trips across the country.

Who is the Oru Kajak inlet good for?
According to the Oru Kayak website, the inlet is “the perfect fit for beginners, seniors and people who want to enjoy the lake and slow paddles”.
As an inexperienced kayak, I can confirm that it is perfect for people who don’t know much about kayaking, but it is also fun for expert kayakers who want to enjoy more and enjoy their surroundings.
With its wide open cockpit, admission is not a good idea for white water or water that moves quickly.
The light design that makes it super wearable also makes it difficult to paddle on windy days. I even noticed a moderate wind that does not move that a typical kayak makes it difficult to maneuver the admission.
But it is perfect for calm, crystal clear alpine lakes or sluggish rivers. I can’t wait to paddle it this summer and for many summer.
