Spring finally arrives here in the Colorado Rockies. The snow melts and the rivers and lakes begin to open. This means that it is time to put the ice fishing output away and break out the open water attack. This year I am particularly pleased to meet the water with two new spider bars from Cashion.
Cashion Rods based in South Carolina has been building high -performance rods for about 15 years. The company was made by Dr. Matthew Cashion founded a ph .d. In molecular chemistry with a focus on polymer science. In other words, this is exactly the kind of person you want to design your fishing rods. With a deep understanding of materials science, Dr. Cashion and his team craftsmen, which are light, powerful, sensitive and built to take.
In order to ensure the highest level of quality, all cashion rods are produced internally. The rod blanks are made by qualified US workers with direct control from Dr. Cashion cut, rolled, heated and completely cut.
As someone who has almost fifty fishing rods of all kinds, I was looking forward to the season with open water, and even more if this Cashion spider bars are ready.

This spring I recorded two similar but different models of Cashion spider sticks. The first is the IAP7MFS ICON spider rod, a 7-foot all-purpose rod with quick effect and medium performance. The second is the IDS7MLFS symbol -spider rod, also 7 feet long and specially developed for drop scots. It has a quick action with medium performance.
As a reference, the rod performance refers to the stiffness or the resistance of a staff against bend under load. The larger the force, the harder the rod is to bend. The action, on the other hand, describes how much of the pole bends under pressure. A fast action rod moves mainly at the top, while a slow action rod gradually bends along the full length of the blank.
Cashion offers several ROD models, and both are part of the icon series that is the leading line of the company. The ICON series mainly consists of fast action sticks with about 12 to 16 inches of top flex before reaching the stiff backbone. This makes them excellent for finesse -fishing, where light bait, subtle presentations and solid hooks are critical.

These rods use a dense EVA foam handle that cashion is more durable than cork and more sensitive than typical foam. The roller seat is made by American Tackle and built from graphite, which improves both weight savings and sensitivity. Under the handle, the bar piston is built from a carbon fiber and a fiber optic mixture, which gives comfort and durability. All Icon spider bars have Guides No. 6, which contribute to the excellent sensitivity and precision of the rod.

Thoughts on the spider sticks of the Cashion Icon series
I won’t be lying, I was pretty excited when the Cashion Icon sticks arrived. As soon as I opened the bar tube and got it out, the quality was immediately clear. Both rods are impressively light and even with the “completely not official” Rod shake, they felt great in their hands. Over the years I have banged to corken handles, but the Eva foam handles feel excellent and seem to be very durable.
The spaces of these two rods have differentiated many similarities with some subtle. Both are 7 feet long and have quick actions, which mainly bow towards the top. I prefer fast action sticks for the use of general sales because it enables effortless cast, strong hooks and improved sensitivity. While I still like slower action poles for certain techniques, quick action is my usual choice.
The biggest difference between the two poles is their strength. The drop-shot model has medium-sized performance, while the all-purpose rod has a more noticeable backbone with medium performance. Both are perfect for the type of fishing that I do and I plan to use them as my main rods this season. Most of my freshwater fishing takes place in Colorado, Wyoming and Michigan. I aim for trout, bass, pike, Walleye and Panfish with a variety of techniques, and the rods of the icon series are well equipped for everything.
The setup
I combined both icing with Shimano Sahara 2500 spinning rollers. Each role is coiling with a 10-pound-woven main line and about 10 feet fluoronal hydrogen guidelines. I selected this setup because the Sahara rollers are light and fit well with the icon poles. The braided line has very little stretching, which contributes to maximizing the sensitivity and quick effect of these rods.

On the water
If you like light, sensitive spider bars, the Cashion Icon Spinning Rod Series is seriously taken into account. Since a few weeks ago, I have fished both poles exclusively on trout, pike and pikeperch in the Colorado mountains.
These rods feel great. They are light, fast -reacted and pleasant for long periods of time. I always preferred Cork handles, but I didn’t miss this spring at all. The Eva foam feels great, seems durable and offers a safe grip even under wet conditions. After I had landed a slimy pike in the rain, I had no problems holding on the pole.

This could be my favorite feature of the Cashion Icon Spinning Rods. The combination of 7-foot length, low weight and fast action makes watering smooth and effortless. Light jigs and crank baits start easily, and the distance and control I get are impressive. As trout continued in my local lake, these rods helped me to reach them with long, exact casts.

These rods have a lot of strength for the type I am targeting. Most of the fish I recently caught were medium -sized rainbow trout, but I managed to hang a firm brown trout that really tested the pole. It stayed deep and made hard runs, but the rod played perfectly. I am confident that this setup will be dealing with the big Blackwände bass later this summer and even pulls 5 pounders out of rocky, deep water.

Dr. Cashion clearly did it right when it comes to sensitivity. These rods are incredibly reaction. With a braided line I can feel every tap and collection. I particularly like to use them with small to medium tube jigs that imitate crabs in our local lakes and rivers. The trout love them. The feeling is so precise that even the lightest bite is noticeable. This was perfect for fishing from pikeperch when it is super These rods have really changed the way I fish.

After I had spent several weeks to fish with the Cashion Icon Spinning Rods, I can confidently say that you do justice to your reputation.
