A forest is magic. At least for me. The smell, the noises (or sometimes only the pure silence) and the colors. This magic is improved by the (quarterly) change of color, fog and sometimes a wild animal. For people who follow me on Instagram, my change of perspective was visible: from the trip to forest photography. Discover the sheer beauty of nature parks and forests near my hometown. Places that I have never visited before because my focus was always on international trips. But maybe it’s time to say: the best trip brings you home?
Forest photography
I wasn’t the only one. Many people started hiking during pandemic. Escapism. Freedom. The only way to get outdoors when everything else was closed or forbidden. For me personally, the forest was also the sword with which I defeated a much -headed monster. A resting monster that was awakened by pandemic and shows its heads in the form of stress and darkness. But mother nature has to defeat power!
I think my moment of revelation was somewhere in July 2020. The first block was at the door. I decided to visit the Dutch nature park The Veluwe. I never really thought about exploring this area in the past, but man how wrong I was. How could I have forgotten how beautiful my own country actually is! I haven’t stopped hiking since that day.
Fast lead so far. At that moment I have over 1000 photos on my laptop of all hikes carried out since July. I share some of them on my Instagram account. Most of them look and only remember this special moment in the forest. Sometimes it was like meditation (forest pool), astonishment or just pure joy. I discovered areas that I had forgotten or never heard. Many hikes are amazed at the beauty of nature, regardless of the season.
Power of nature
It also realized that nature is good for me. For me, a day in the forest is the perfect escape from work at home, tiredness and stress. Nature energies me. On the other hand, I have made it clear that we have to be incredibly careful with the natural areas around us. Nature is under pressure and it is our job to protect it. If you are Dutch, consider to support Natuurmonians, an organization that makes a case for the entire kind of the whole species that remains. And for the new nature that is still in the Netherlands. Thanks!
Now I share my most magical forest photos. The one I took so far. As soon as the trees become green again after a long and dark winter, I’m back with my camera.
